Looking Forward To A Great Year Of Service!!!

Greetings to all of our fellow Shattuck Shelter Ministry Team Members;

We hope you had a wonderful and restful Summer. We are happy to report that our annual cookout for the Shelter guests was a huge success. Over 250 hot dogs and hamburgers were grilled to perfection and served to the very grateful shelter guests. Big thanks to everyone who donated chips, cakes and soda. And an especially big thanks going to our friends at Sullivan’s on Castle Island for once again donating the meat, rolls & cheese.

Pine Street Inn has a new volunteer coordinator. Elizabeth has been promoted to a new position. Our new liaison will be Patrick. We have meet with him. He seems excited to work with us and has committed to doing all he can to help our ministry continue to serve the guests.

We have a great group of folks serving and baking. We are always open to welcoming new members to the ministry. If you know of anyone who is interested in serving and / or baking please have them call me at 617 833 7063.

Below is the serving schedule for the upcoming year. Please know that Sonia and I are here to help should any issues arise. We can be reached at 617 833 7063 or via email

Remembering Donna!!!

With An Evening of Mystery & Music

Oh what a night! Our evening of Mystery and Music to remember our friend Donna Salem was an incredible success! We had a great crowd, great magic and fabulous music. And we raised funds to support our ministry and help a member of the Youth Group attend a service trip.

A big thanks goes out to everyone who helped make this tremendous night possible.

“Ask and you shall receive”

The St Mary of the Hills Parish Family made those words come true this Christmas for more than 300 guests of the Shattuck Shelter. Our annual Christmas party for the guests was a huge success thanks to the generosity and efforts of our entire parish family.

initial treeOn November 8th our hard working facilities genius Mike Bragga and some helpful elves erected our Parish Giving Tree. It was quickly decorated with over 320 ornaments with gift suggestions. There was concern that since we had a much shorter than usual time frame to collect the gifts we might have trouble reaching our goal. Such a silly concern.

As quickly as they went on to the tree those ornaments disappeared as if by magic. One week later the floor surrounding the tree was covered with more than 300 beautifully wrapped gifts. What a blessing!

smoth christmasAnd what a potential nightmare. How would we sort all those gifts in time for the party? Have no fear, the St Mary of the Hills Youth Group came to the rescue. Under the leadership of our amazing youth minister Frank Connell.

On Friday, December 18 a great team of parish movers and shakers loaded the gifts into 6 SUV’s and delivered them to the Shelter. That night, under the watchful eye of our Pastor Fr Wright, a great team of volunteers distributed the gifts to the incredibly bagged & taggedgrateful Shattuck guests.

After the gifts were opened Shelter guests were treated to a delicious Christmas cake that Ellen Dunn and her dad Bob provided.

A great time was had by all. Thanks so much to everyone who made this night possible.

donnaGreetings to All of Our Beautiful St Mary of the Hills Shattuck Shelter Ministry Teams;

As you know, our dear friend Donna Salem went home to Jesus last spring. Donna did a tremendous job leading this Ministry. It is clear dear this Ministry was to her heart by the time and effort and love that she put into it.
As Donna’s friends and fellow Team members, it is important to us that this Ministry continue in the spirit that Donna intended. We are pleased to let you know that Fr Wright has accepted our offer to take over coordinating the Ministry as we move forward. We know we will never be able to replace Donna, but we do promise to do our very best to keep the ministry alive and to bring joy and tasty treats to the guests at the shelter.
We also hope to communicate with you via email as often as possible. This will save time and money. Our new Ministry email address is jedlie@jedlie.com. If you could take a quick minute to send us an email at this address so we can add you to the list.

You may also want to make sure that you add this address to your “white list” so that all of our messages go directly to your in box and will not be sent to your junk folder. Of course if you do not have an email account we will still communicate with you via US Mail; Please make sure to let us know if that is the case.

If you have not already done so, please review the Pine Street Inn Volunteer Code of Conduct that accompanies this letter. If you have not done so in the past, please sign the Pine Street Inn Volunteer Code of Conduct Acknowledgement Form and after signing it return the last page to Rectory as soon as possible.

As always, if you have any questions regarding the Code of Conduct or any other matter, please feel free to contact us (see contact information, below).

Just as a reminder:
• No one under the age of 18 is allowed to volunteer.
• All volunteers are required to wear a baseball cap or a hairnet.
• Please let you Team Leader know as soon as possible if you are unable to attend your scheduled week.
• All utensils should be accounted for and clean for the next group. (Do you want to mention where they should be returned for the next group?)

We are always looking for more people to join our truly blessed Ministry Teams. If you know of anyone who would like to be a part of this Ministry please have them contact us.

Thank you for all that you continue to do. May our God continue to bless you all.
